PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Learn Specific Techniques for Specific Mind-Body States

How are you showing up? How well do you respond to challenges? What is your state of mind when making key decisions? If your mind is distracted or negative emotions have taken over, you will have less capacity for creativity, compassion, wise decision-making, and skillful self-regulation. In our world of rapid change and increasing complexity, State Shifting is the game-changing skill for highly successful and happy people. In this program, learn specific breathing, meditation and energy moves to SHIFT YOUR MOOD & MIND STATE AT WILL, so you can bust through stress, enhance focus, improve decision-making, boost creativity, and create sustainable success at work and in life. In each session, you will also learn the brain basics of each state, as well as lifestyle strategies (e.g., food, scents, sounds) to enhance that state. The E-book outlines the practices and offer prompts for reflection. By the end of the program, you will understand the mind-body connection, know how to recognize your current state, and be skilled at shifting to a more optimal state, if desired. You will also establish a daily practice that can boost overall awareness and build mental resilience. You will tap into your innate power to choose how to BE in every moment of every day. SESSION 1: CALM & CENTERED

Have you ever made a decision when you were stressed or angry? How did it work out? Emotional states like anger and anxiety can have detrimental effects on decision-making by impairing your ability to think rationally. You may make impulsive choices, overlook important information, snap at those around you, and focus on blame rather than solutions. It also clouds the ability to tap into creativity and your gut instincts. On the other hand, when your mind is free and relaxed, you will have the clarity to face whatever comes your way. In this session, you will practice techniques to shift from an angry or anxious state to a calm and centered state.

SESSION 2: AWARE & FOCUSED

From digital notifications to physical noise, distractions abound and attention is at a premium. Distractions and lack of focus can significantly hinder your ability to achieve your goals at work and in life. It can lead to decreased work quality, missed deadlines, poor decision-making, increased stress levels, burnout, and even impaired mental health by disrupting cognitive processes and making it difficult to concentrate. On the other hand, when you are aware and focused, you can be present for joy and have higher quality outcomes at work and in all of your relationships. In this session, you will practice techniques to shift from a distracted state to an aware and focused state.

SESSION 3: ENERGETIC & MOTIVATED

Do you need an energetic charge? Feeling sluggish can affect every part of your life. It can decrease mental clarity, impair concentration, reduce social engagement, strain relationships, and reduce overall productivity and enjoyment of life. When you have low energy, your motivation to take action or complete tasks is typically reduced, making it harder to feel driven to do things. Confidence can also take a nose dive. On the other hand, when your energy is pumped up, you can feel unstoppable and build momentum to realize your personal and professional goals. In this session, you will practice techniques to shift from a state of low energy to an energetic and motivated state.

SESSION 4: OPTIMISTIC & COMPASSIONATE

Life can be hard when you are constantly anticipating negative outcomes. A pessimistic outlook can lead to decreased motivation, reduced productivity, strained relationships, increased stress levels, difficulty achieving goals, and a higher susceptibility to anxiety and depression. A lack of compassion can lead to difficulty forming meaningful connections and a sense of isolation. On the other hand, both optimism and compassion are good for your mental, physical and emotional health, AND improve relationships, happiness, and resilience. In this session, you will practice techniques to shift from a pessimistic and low-empathy state to an optimistic and compassionate state.

SESSION 5: CLEAR & CREATIVE

Do you at times find it challenging to generate fresh ideas and tap into your creative flow? Perhaps you have brain fog--a state of mental fatigue and overwhelm where it feels like fog is rolling through your mind. This can certainly put a damper on productivity when you need attention to detail. Ironically, you can learn how to use this dream-like "diffuse mode" to actually prompt creativity--a practice adopted by Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, and other innovators. In this session, you will practice techniques to shift from brain fog to clarity and creativity, as well as learn the elements that help create a state of flow--when you are fully immersed and "in the zone."

SESSION 6: INTEGRATION

Once you've learned the techniques to state shift, then what? In our final session, you'll reflect on your observations in your workbook, and practice integrating the techniques into your daily life. We'll also discuss how to move from a "state" (a temporary emotional or psychological condition) to a "trait" (a stable, long-term characteristic). Finally, you will establish a daily practice that can boost overall awareness and build mental resilience.

Teresa Kay-Aba Kennedy, Ph.D., MBA, RYT, CPC

Teresa Kay-Aba Kennedy is redefining how we live, work, and inhabit the planet. A Harvard Business School-trained strategist, global transformational leader and speaker/moderator/curator at high-level events, she is the creator of the Embodied Success® Coaching System and the IAmPowerLiving.com empowerment platform. For over 20 years, she has been training people around the world in her "whole-person" approach to wellness, empowerment, and success—tapping into her unique multi-disciplinary background, real-world experience, and deep interest in human potential. She integrates neuroscience, leadership, and embodiment practices to help high achievers play full out without burnout, navigate change and uncertainty with ease and confidence, and be present for moment-to-moment joy. Former VP at MTV Networks and founder of VH1 Online and VH1@Work Radio at the beginning of the commercial Internet, she is an innovator who understands the journey of the high-performing professional and has personally experienced it all… from success to near death to full-system transformation. After almost dying in 1997, she left her corporate career and founded the first yoga studio in Harlem. She is seasoned at making contemplative practices accessible for a professional audience with deep credibility in both the business and yoga/wellness worlds. Considered a mind-body expert, she has over 1,000 hours of yoga teacher training and a comprehensive understanding of nervous system regulation (which she teaches in her State Shifting course and as a part of Embodied Success®). She served six years on the Board of Yoga Alliance (inc. Chair and Interim CEO) setting standards for yoga teaching in the U.S., and was one of the first African Americans featured on the cover of Yoga Journal. She has led programs on the mind-body connection for entities like the National Institutes of Health and Association of Black Cardiologists, and has even taught yoga to global leaders on a private section of The Great Wall of China. She is an advanced student of Sri Dharma Mittra and protégé of the late yoga master Tao Porchon-Lynch. Her initial teacher training was at Integral Yoga Institute and she participated in one of the last satsang gatherings (i.e., audience with a master) with Sri Swami Satchidananda (whose teachings inspired Dr. Dean Ornish's pioneering work on reversing heart disease). She is a National Spokesperson for the American Heart Association, and has written six books, including Tao's award-winning autobiography, Dancing Light: The Spiritual Side of Being Through the Eyes of a Modern Yoga Master. Called "smart with a heart," she has been a moderator at the United Nations, and was selected as a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, including being a Discussion Leader for the Annual Meeting in Davos. She has received over 20 awards across disciplines, including the Women Who Dare To Be Different Award presented by Congressman Edolphus Towns and The Women’s Caucus. Her work has been featured in various media, from CNN to Oprah's book, Live Your Best Life!
